Johann Georg Wehner

The German death record for Johann Georg Wehner, father of Nicholas and Lorenz Wehner, founders of the Wehners of Southeast Missouri, is shown here. Though a partial transcription of the record is available on Ancestry (to those with a World Explorer Membership), I wanted to see a translation of the full document. Unfortunately, the handwriting is so poor that it was far beyond my capability. The document has now been translated from Old German to English by an expert (Katherine Schober, SK Translations). The full transcription shows the following new or changed information.

1. Johann was born in Dietershan. (The name is consistently mispelled "Ditershan" throughout the German record.)

2. He died in Dietershan, rather than in Marbach, the location given by Ancestry. Marbach is where the death was recorded.

3. His son Valentin, a farmer residing in Dietershan, was the informant.

4. As expected, he was retired and was a Catholic.

5. Most interesting is that Johann had a second marriage, to Anna Katharina Ritz (the handwritten last name is unclear and not certain).
